​Carpenter ants are the most destructive pests in a house.
Carpenter ants build 2 types of nests
Mother nest carpenter ants

​Mother Nest:    This nest is always located in ground near structure. Carpenter ant queen start this nest in fall. This nest is located 3 ½ feet to 4 feet deep in the ground (below freezing line). These nests are moisture sensitive and have ants nest in it.
Carpenter ants eggs cannot survive without water, so mother nest will always be in the ground around your house or structure.
Carpenter ants shuttle nest

Shuttle Nests: 
When the population of carpenter ants increases, carpenter ants start forging inside the structure. Worker ants chew through lumber, wood pillars and wooden structure in the walls, make galleries to feed the larva. They transfer larva from mother nest to shuttle nest and then these larva grow to adult and future carpenter ants.

SIGNS OF CARPENTER ANTS:
1: Saw dust
2: Carpenter Ants crawling around in washroom, dishwasher, washer and dryer areas are the first sign
3: Swarming of carpenter ants or Big Black winged ants inside the house.
